Industrial heritage as the factor of industrial tourism development in Vilnius.

In the 21st century questions of industrial heritage preservation obtain world significance and actuality, the interest to industrial heritage use in educational and touristic purposes is growing.
While for developed countries of West and USA the preservation and representation of industrial heritage and also the development of industrial tourism have already become a kind of a trend, for postsoviet countries, many of which are only entering the stage of industrial heritage, are facing a lot of problems in discourse of industrial heritage preservation. After obtaining independence the problem of industrial heritage preservation for Lithuania becomes especially actual, as most factories and plants are closing, and the question what to do with their equipment and buildings arouses. Vilnius, being one of the main industrial centers of Lithuania during the soviet governing, today has a good base for industrial tourism development.

In his presentation author analyses nowadays status of industrial heritage as the factor of industrial heritage development in Vilnius. Author will determine the role of industrial heritage, will reveal modern trends of the industrial heritage use in the context of industrial tourism and on the base of the new developed by the author scheme of industrial heritage objects assessment will determine the perspectives of industrial tourism development in Vilnius.

Smells, tastes, sounds – what marks the stages of our life: childhood, youth, adulthood and old ages. They especially stay in our mind, able to bring memories back to life. Smells and sounds also mark the living space. In one of the Minsk outskirts, nowadays in the center of the capital – in Starazhouka – most of the smells, tastes and sounds have always been connected with factories, plants and workshops functioning.
Their work have influenced in different ways on local citizens and especially on children world view. Industrial heritage of Starazhouka is not only interesting as a material object, but also as an image and factor of upbringing


Heritage as the source of development: actualization of industrial heritage in Europe (the end of XX – the beginning of XXI centuries)

Within the framework of my topic (“Industrial heritage as the source of development”) I want to tell how actualization of objects and elements of industrial culture positively influence on regions development. I will try to illustrate how realization of projects, connected with industrial heritage, becomes part of the stable territories development concept on the examples of west-European countries.
