German media theorist Friedrich Adolf Kittler (1943-2011) is best known for his rather controversial ideas about purifying the humanities from so-called humans and subjecting this brach of knowledge to media theory (for it is media which determine our situation in the world, not vice versa). However, according to Kittler, humans are not the only victims of media determinism, the ways we think about time are creation of the media too. In my presentation I will introduce Kittler’s conceptions of the media and their manipulations with the time axis.
